KUALA LUMPUR, April 17<\/strong> — The Malaysian contingent kicked off their campaign\u00a0in the 82nd Singapore Open Track &\u00a0Field Championships 2022 with a haul of two gold and a bronze\u00a0today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Teen sprinting sensation Muhammad Azeem Fahmi triumphed in the men\u2019s 200 metres (m) event, clocking in at 21.52 seconds (s), ahead of hosts Reuben Rainer Lee (21.59s) and Jonathan Bull (23.13s) representing the Wings Athletics Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The country\u2019s senior sprinter Jonathan Nyepa ended in fifth\u00a0place with 31.62s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, the 17-year-old Muhammad Azeem finished first in the preliminary round, recording 21.78s in Heat 2, while Jonathan was fourth with 22.45s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, K. Prabudass emerged victorious in the men\u2019s 1,500m event clocking in at three minutes and 54.23s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The silver and bronze medals were won by Alfrence Braza (3:59.19s) of the Philippines and S. Jeevaneesh (4:00.99s) of Singapore, while another Malaysian representative Mohammad Amirul Arif Mohd Azri ended in fifth with 4:15.85s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Paralympic champion Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli bagged\u00a0the bronze medal in the men\u2019s shot put event by setting a new season-best\u00a0hurl of 16.54m, a slight improvement from his 16.27m throw in the Malaysia Open, early last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Philippines conquered the podium as John Albert Mantua (17.33m) and William Edward Morrison (16.61m) swept the gold and silver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another Malaysian, Farm Loong Deng missed out on the medal by 0.1m, finishing fourth with his 16.44m effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
