{"id":13446,"date":"2022-03-08T21:32:59","date_gmt":"2022-03-08T13:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=13446"},"modified":"2022-03-08T21:33:01","modified_gmt":"2022-03-08T13:33:01","slug":"malaysia-to-reopen-borders-from-april-1-pm-ismail-sabri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=13446","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia to reopen borders from April 1 &#8211; PM Ismail Sabri"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, March 8 &#8212; The borders of the country will be reopened on April 1, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said this is in line with the plan on entering the\u00a0Transition to Endemic Phase as well as announcements to revive the overall\u00a0national economy, especially the tourism industry which had been hit by the pandemic.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWith the reopening of the country\u2019s borders, Malaysians with valid travel documents can now leave and enter the country as usual and allowed to travel to any country which also opens its borders to foreign travelers.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAt the same time, foreign\u00a0visitors with valid travel documents\u00a0are also able to\u00a0move in\u00a0and out of the country without applying for MyTravelPass which have been repealed,\u201d<\/em> he told a special media conference at Parliament Building here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said members of the public only need\u00a0to download and activate the MySejahtera application and\u00a0complete the Pre-Departure Form via the Traveller function\u00a0in the MySejahtera application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-21.29.17.png\" alt=\"borders\" class=\"wp-image-13447\" width=\"504\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-21.29.17.png 590w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-21.29.17-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-21.29.17-186x100.png 186w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Screen-Shot-2022-03-08-at-21.29.17-350x189.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Ismail Sabri said individuals who&nbsp;have been fully vaccinated, do&nbsp;not need to undergo&nbsp;quarantine and they only need to take the&nbsp;COVID-19&nbsp;real-time reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR)&nbsp;detection test two days before departing and the professional RTK-Ag test within&nbsp;24 hours after their&nbsp;arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said this is a compulsory procedure for all Malaysian and foreign travelers who wish to enter Malaysia, as the spread of COVID-19 especially the Omicron wave is still in Malaysia\u00a0and many countries in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to him, the status of other vaccination\u00a0such as not receiving vaccines due to medical reasons and not receiving any vaccinations, details on the procedure would be announced by Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ismail Sabri said the list of detailed standard operating procedures&nbsp;(SOP) at international checkpoints on land and seas would also be issued by the relevant ministries soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the decision to reopen the borders, he said it was based on three basic matters guided by science and the latest facts on COVID-19 compared to the need to open the country\u2019s border as well as giving comfort to travelers and not to make\u00a0their journey difficult.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For countries that&nbsp;still have&nbsp;their borders closed, Ismail Sabri said Malaysians can benefit via the&nbsp;Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) as agreed by the Government of Malaysia with the countries involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;For the time being, VTL has been implemented with Singapore\u00a0since last year.
