{"id":13387,"date":"2022-02-26T11:37:50","date_gmt":"2022-02-26T03:37:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=13387"},"modified":"2022-02-26T11:37:51","modified_gmt":"2022-02-26T03:37:51","slug":"malaysia-thailand-committed-to-achieve-bilateral-trade-of-us30-bln-by-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=13387","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia, Thailand committed to achieve bilateral trade of US$30 bln by 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>BANGKOK, Feb 26 &#8212;\u00a0Malaysia and\u00a0Thailand are committed to continuing their\u00a0close cooperation to realize\u00a0the bilateral trade target of US$30 billion (US$1=RM4.20) by 2025 for the economic recovery of both countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister\u00a0Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is on a three-day official visit to Thailand, said he and his Thai counterpart Prayuth Chan o-cha both hoped that the third ministerial-level Joint Trade Committee (JTC) meeting could\u00a0be held as soon as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe also agreed to explore new investment opportunities on both sides.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThai investors can explore new investment sectors in Malaysia such as the digital economy, green economy, and circular economy, while Malaysian investors can participate in the\u00a0Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economic model and other new sectors such as vaccine research and development, electric and smart vehicles, automation and robotics in\u00a0Thailand,\u201d<\/em> he told a joint media conference at the Government House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thailand remains as Malaysia&#8217;s sixth-biggest trading partner in the world and the second-largest in ASEAN. Malaysia is Thailand&#8217;s fourth-largest trading partner in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Two-way trade between Malaysia and Thailand increased by 23 percent to RM97.97 billion last year from RM79.63 billion in 2020.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, the two leaders held a restricted meeting at the Government House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Malaysian premier said he and Prayuth also reiterated their commitment to strengthen Malaysia-Thailand cooperation under the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) framework, especially in the Physical Connectivity Projects implementation and for mutual benefits in the agriculture and agro-based industry, tourism as well as halal products and services to realize the IMT-GT Vision 2036.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, he said, they both agreed to continue the existing two-way mechanism, including the Annual Consultation&nbsp;and two meetings at the ministerial level, namely the Thailand-Malaysia Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation&nbsp;and the Thailand-Malaysia Committee on Joint Development Strategy for Border Areas meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri proposed the control of\u00a0rubber pricing among International Tripartite Rubber Council members Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand to benefit member countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cHopefully it will give\u00a0mutual\u00a0benefits for our rubber smallholders,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a
