{"id":13210,"date":"2022-02-04T17:38:15","date_gmt":"2022-02-04T09:38:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=13210"},"modified":"2022-02-04T17:38:16","modified_gmt":"2022-02-04T09:38:16","slug":"rosmahs-lawyers-told-to-prioritize-case-after-a-delay-in-trial-conclusion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=13210","title":{"rendered":"Rosmah\u2019s lawyers told to prioritize case after a delay in trial conclusion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, \u00a0Feb 4\u00a0 &#8212; High Court Judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan today reminded lawyers representing\u00a0Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor in her corruption case pertaining to\u00a0the solar energy project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak, to\u00a0give priority to the trial, which is supposed to end today.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In saying so, Mohamed Zaini told the defense to adjourn all other matters that they had\u00a0and to give priority to the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This happened after the judge was informed of the absence of\u00a0a former special officer to former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak,\u00a0Datuk Seri Siti Azizah Sheikh Abod, who was supposed to be cross-examined by the prosecution today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Siti Azizah is\u00a0the last witness for the defense after Najib was dropped from Rosmah&#8217;s witness list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;That changes everything. It was supposed to be the last day of the trial. I accept your explanation. I know you are all busy counsels &#8230; you have busy matters but I urge you to write to the courts and adjourn your matters.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;This matter (Rosmah&#8217;s solar case) is to be given priority. but her flight was postponed to Jan 29 from Abu Dhabi to Kuala Lumpur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;This caused\u00a0the quarantine period to end tomorrow (Feb 5),&#8221;<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, senior deputy public prosecutor Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram told the court that the prosecution would not take long to cross-examine the last witness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;If it is any consolation, I will only take an hour and a half (for cross-examination),&#8221;<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mohamed Zaini then adjourned the trial to Feb 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Feb 18 last year, the High Court ordered Rosmah to defend herself on all three corruption charges involving the solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak after finding that the prosecution had succeeded in proving a prima facie case against her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rosmah, 70, faces one charge of soliciting RM187.5 million and two charges of accepting bribes amounting to RM6.5 million from former Jepak Holdings managing director Saidi Abang Samsudin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bribe was allegedly received through her former special\u00a0officer Datuk Rizal Mansor, as a reward to help Jepak Holdings to obtain the Integrated Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Hybrid System Project as well as Genset\/Diesel Maintenance and Operation for 369 schools worth RM1.25 billion through direct negotiations from the Ministry of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/crime_courts\/news.php?id=2049156\">Bernama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, \u00a0Feb 4\u00a0 &#8212;
