KUANTAN, Jan 25 — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to start a cultural diplomacy program by the middle of this year with the involvement of several embassies, says\u00a0its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the initial stage, he suggested organizing mini-film\u00a0and documentary festivals to promote Malaysian culture on the international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe start with small-scale projects, as we feel the mini-festivals could be organized by our embassies as\u00a0these do\u00a0not involve big budgets.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMalaysia has many award-winning short films,” <\/em>he told reporters after visiting the Pahang office of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture (MOTAC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saifuddin said the details on the cultural diplomacy program content would be implemented in collaboration with MOTAC, KKMM, MoE, and MoHE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy\u00a0ministry is currently on a series of visits to its state offices to obtain the relevant input for the success of cultural diplomacy, aimed at sharing with foreign countries the uniqueness of Malaysian culture.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need to gather views from\u00a0all parties and hope that in 2023, the work on\u00a0cultural diplomacy will take off smoothly,”<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said his\u00a0ministry also planned to create an attache\u00a0post to promote cultural diplomacy in foreign countries next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On a separate matter, Saifuddin, who is also the Indera Mahkota MP, said he had discussed with the MOTAC Pahang office to carry out promotional efforts\u00a0to revive Cherating as a\u00a0tourist destination, which was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCherating was once popular for its various attractions such as the water activities, turtle sanctuary, weaving center, and homestays. We want Cherating to regain its popularity as a\u00a0tourist destination,\u201d<\/em> he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
