Khairy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12\u00a0 &#8212; Companies, factories, and government agencies violating the standard operating procedures (SOP) set to control the spread of the COVID-19 outbreak can be compounded up to RM1 million following amendments to the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1998 (Act 342), said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the increase in the compound was among the amendments that would be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khairy said the compound would be higher for repeated offenses, based on assessments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently, the maximum amount that could be imposed on errant companies and factories is RM50,000, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-09.29.01.png\" alt=\"companies\" class=\"wp-image-12547\" width=\"487\" height=\"266\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-09.29.01.png 582w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-09.29.01-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-09.29.01-182x100.png 182w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/Screen-Shot-2021-12-02-at-09.29.01-350x192.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 487px) 100vw, 487px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>&#8220;For individuals, the maximum amount of compound will remain at RM10,000 but based on the current situation involving home quarantine implementation and so on, amendments will also involve matters such as the installation of surveillance devices,&#8221;<\/em> he said when appearing on RTM\u2019s program \u2018Bicara Naratif Khas: Menilai Ketegasan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia (Assessing the Assertiveness of the Ministry of Health)\u00a0tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khairy said the amendments were&nbsp;also crucial in terms of enforcement as they would involve the delegation of power to allow enforcement to be carried out not only by officers from the Health Ministry but also by local authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said it would involve clear guidelines so that there would be no issue of abuse of power, stressing that the move was for \u2018future proofing\u2019 to affect behavioral changes among the communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move also sought to refine the implementation of infectious diseases control to be more effective and efficient, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khairy stressed that the ministry is always committed and takes a firm stand to ensure the people\u2019s safety by implementing efforts to control the COVID-19 pandemic, adding that the public should continue to comply with the prescribed SOP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/news.php?id=2032945\">Bernama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12\u00a0 &#8212;
