{"id":12600,"date":"2021-12-07T11:27:52","date_gmt":"2021-12-07T03:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12600"},"modified":"2021-12-07T11:27:54","modified_gmt":"2021-12-07T03:27:54","slug":"court-of-appeal-to-go-ahead-with-proceeding-despite-najibs-bid-to-delay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12600","title":{"rendered":"Court of appeal to go ahead with proceeding despite Najib&#8217;s bid to delay"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Putrajaya, Dec 7 &#8212; The Court of Appeal\u2019s hearing of Najib Razak\u2019s bid to cite more evidence in his SRC International appeal will continue as scheduled today despite a request by the former prime minister\u2019s legal team for a delay of proceeding after one of his lawyers tested positive for Covid-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Utusan Online, Najib\u2019s lead counsel Muhammad Shafee Abdullah requested late last night that today\u2019s proceeding be postponed along with the court\u2019s decision tomorrow on Najib\u2019s appeal in the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A court official however said today that the proceeding would continue, with the three judges and the prosecution team in the court and the lawyers to participate through Zoom from their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judge Abdul Karim Abdul Jalil who led the three-man bench told Najib\u2019s lawyer Harvinder Singh Sidhu that there were two possible options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>We cancel the bail and he (Najib) will be issued a warrant of arrest immediately and be brought to the court today (Tuesday) itself<\/em>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-12-at-20.59.37.png\" alt=\"proceeding\" class=\"wp-image-9095\" width=\"489\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-12-at-20.59.37.png 585w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-12-at-20.59.37-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-12-at-20.59.37-182x100.png 182w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Screen-Shot-2021-04-12-at-20.59.37-350x192.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 489px) 100vw, 489px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<em>The second choice \u2013 we direct that this is heard online, and this is the court direction. We don\u2019t need consent by parties; we go online. This is more than safe. We have had cases online when people were in the US, France, and Japan. This is in Malaysia. We have online facilities. We have this application for fresh evidence.
