KUCHING, Dec 3 — PKR today announced the names of 27 candidates who will represent the party in the Sarawak state election slated on Dec 18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among those in the list are Sarawak PKR Leadership Council acting chairman Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh who will contest the Beting Maro seat and Sarawak PKR Leadership Council secretary Joshua Jabeng,  for the Kakus seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joshua said the announcement of the 27 candidates was made after the party decided to contest only the seats where they have higher chances of winning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe rationale behind this is not just to contest, but more importantly is to win\u2026that\u2019s why we decided to contest in the seats that we are confident we can win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBesides, we will not contest the seats contested by DAP…it\u2019s to avoid overlapping. That\u2019s our principle and spirit in Pakatan Harapan (PH),\u201d he told a press conference at Sarawak PKR headquarters here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, Abang Zulkifli said the party would contest 49 out of the 82 seats in the state election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, PKR state election director Dominique Ng said PKR acted rationally by not fielding its candidates in the seats where the party had no hope of winning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cActually, the 49 seats that we mentioned earlier were focused seats, but we didn\u2019t say we will contest in reality, we rather focus more on the winnable seats than put our candidates in areas we have absolutely no chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRight now, it seems like a lot of other parties\u2026so we decided to reduce our seats because we need to be realistic in our expectations. That\u2019s why we rather had a drastic reduction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ng said the party, however, may make a last-minute change and add a few more names to the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut certainly no big corner fight with DAP, because we are running in the same PH,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
