Fifty localities will be identified by the Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU) in mid-December for the first phase of the poverty eradication program using the whole of nation approach, said\u00a0Minister in the Prime Minister\u2019s Department (Economy), Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said each locality will be verified with the cooperation of the state government at the end of the year before\u00a0programs and strategies are formulated based on the needs according to the suitability of each locality in January next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the first phase of the program will be tabled to the Cabinet\u00a0in February before the implementation of the program in 50 localities, expected to commence\u00a0in March 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This new approach will be reviewed every three months to make sure effective intervention if the achievement is found not to be satisfactory,\u201d\u00a0he said at the Ministers\u2019 Question Time session in the Dewan Rakyat today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-08-at-19.22.18.png\" alt=\"poverty\" class=\"wp-image-10646\" width=\"524\" height=\"336\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-08-at-19.22.18.png 824w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-08-at-19.22.18-300x193.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-08-at-19.22.18-768x493.png 768w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-08-at-19.22.18-156x100.png 156w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-08-at-19.22.18-350x225.png 350w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-08-at-19.22.18-800x514.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He was replying to a question from&nbsp;Chang Lih Kang (PH-Tanjong Malim) on the strategies and action plan taken by the government&nbsp;in achieving the target of zero hardcore poor by 2025 as stated in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hardcore poor is defined as&nbsp;households earning RM1,169 per month and below, based on the cost of purchasing basic food, for households with four family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mustapa said apart from the 50 selected localities, the existing program for other groups and families nationwide will be continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elaborating further, he said the new approach would involve comprehensive and integrated participation from the federal and state governments, the private sector, universities, government-linked companies and civil society organizations (CSO), and community-based organizations (CBO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Under the 12MP,\u00a0\u00a0a comprehensive strategy covering economic, entrepreneurship, education, and health projects and programs will be implemented to eradicate hardcore poverty by the year 2025,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also said that the eradication of hardcore poor will be implemented regardless of gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and location, whether urban or rural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To ensure a more focused implementation, Mustapa said a Poverty Unit was established under the Economic Planning Unit, Prime Minister&#8217;s Department on Nov 8, apart from several states taking the initiative to establish their respective poverty units at the state and district levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/news.php?id=2028585\">Bernama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 &#8212;
