{"id":12400,"date":"2021-11-19T16:10:06","date_gmt":"2021-11-19T08:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12400"},"modified":"2021-11-19T16:10:07","modified_gmt":"2021-11-19T08:10:07","slug":"malaysia-calls-on-iora-member-states-to-foster-more-robust-cooperation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12400","title":{"rendered":"Malaysia calls on IORA member states to foster more robust cooperation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>PUTRAJAYA, Nov 19 \u00a0&#8212; Malaysia has called on all member states of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) to foster\u00a0more robust cooperation for tangible outcomes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foreign Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, in delivering Malaysia&#8217;s national statement at the 21st&nbsp;IORA&nbsp;Council of Ministers\u2019 Meeting said this will&nbsp;enable the grouping to unleash the region\u2019s potential in creating a shared destiny and path to prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting was hosted\u00a0virtually by Bangladesh\u00a0on Nov 18. It\u00a0was preceded by the 23rd Council of Senior Officials Meeting held from Nov 15 to 17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from the Foreign Ministry on Thursday said in\u00a0the national statement, Saifuddin had also\u00a0spoken about health diplomacy, cultural diplomacy, maritime security, and other post-COVID-19 cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-09-at-11.33.43.png\" alt=\"IORA\" class=\"wp-image-12308\" width=\"479\" height=\"261\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-09-at-11.33.43.png 587w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-09-at-11.33.43-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-09-at-11.33.43-183x100.png 183w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-09-at-11.33.43-350x191.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 479px) 100vw, 479px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On maritime safety and security, it&nbsp;added that&nbsp;Malaysia offered the expertise and technical knowledge of its Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Themed \u201cHarnessing the Opportunities of Indian Ocean Sustainably for Inclusive Development\u201d, the 21st IORA COM discussed issues of mutual concern to create a safe and prosperous Indian Ocean region while ensuring inclusive development through existing cooperation between IORA member states and Dialogue Partners, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 21st IORA Council of Ministers\u2019 Meeting adopted the Dhaka Communiqu\u00e9 which highlighted, among others, IORA&#8217;s pivotal role in promoting inclusive development and emphasizing the importance of safeguarding maritime security in the Indian Ocean region amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Malaysia has been an active member of IORA since 1997.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IORA currently has 23 Member States that stretches from Asia to Africa and ten Dialogue Partners, which include, China, Egypt, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Russia, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\">NMT<\/a> as reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bernama.com\/en\/world\/news.php?id=2024790\">Bernama<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PUTRAJAYA, Nov 19 \u00a0&#8212;
