{"id":12345,"date":"2021-11-14T12:38:23","date_gmt":"2021-11-14T04:38:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12345"},"modified":"2021-11-14T12:38:23","modified_gmt":"2021-11-14T04:38:23","slug":"post-covid-19-requires-wisdom-in-leadership-for-recovery-planning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12345","title":{"rendered":"Post COVID-19 requires wisdom in leadership for recovery planning"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KUALA KANGSAR, Nov 14 &#8212;&nbsp;Post-COVID-19 requires&nbsp;wisdom in leadership as well as dynamic and energetic&nbsp;management in planning recovery strategies that can create a meaningful impact on the people, especially in efforts to eradicate poverty, said Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the wisdom of past leaders who had formulated poverty eradication programs during the post-independence era and when the\u00a0New Economic Policy (NEP) was first introduced, should be emulated and used as\u00a0reference and guideline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEducation was\u00a0the most successful program to achieve the NEP objectives of poverty eradication and restructuring society. The majority who managed to escape the shackles of poverty and the increase in middle-class groups especially among the Malay community were achieved through educational programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Following the pandemic, the education platform, namely schools, universities, and educational centers were the institutions that were directly affected. Students in schools, as well as various training and educational institutions, are the casualties or victims who suffered greatly when the Movement Control Order was enforced,\u201d said His Highness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sultan Nazrin Shah said this at the investiture ceremony for state awards and medals, held in conjunction with his 65th birthday celebration at Istana Iskandariah here today, which was also attended by Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-14-at-12.36.48.png\" alt=\"wisdom\" class=\"wp-image-12346\" width=\"475\" height=\"259\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-14-at-12.36.48.png 583w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-14-at-12.36.48-300x164.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-14-at-12.36.48-183x100.png 183w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Screen-Shot-2021-11-14-at-12.36.48-350x191.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the ceremony,\u00a0Sultan Nazrin presented\u00a0awards and medals to\u00a038 of the 339 recipients, while the second session of the\u00a0ceremony for the remaining recipients will be held on a date to be approved by Sultan Nazrin, subject to the COVID-19 situation at\u00a0that time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad who leads the list of 339 recipients, was conferred the&nbsp;\u2018Darjah Dato&#8217; Seri Paduka Mahkota Perak\u2019 (SPMP) award, which carries the title \u2018Datuk Seri\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the record, of the 339 recipients,\u00a0147 are recipients for the 2020 investiture ceremony while\u00a0192 are this year\u2019s recipients and the ceremony is organized simultaneously following the COVID-19 pandemic last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In his speech, Sultan Nazrin expressed concern over the state of education in the country which still lacks sufficient infrastructure to enable the new educational approach\u00a0to be enjoyed equally by everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople in the rural areas face difficulties with the &nbsp;home-based teaching and learning PDPR) method due to slow and unstable internet connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;While those in the low-income and poor categories face financial difficulties and are unable to provide their&nbsp;children with quality&nbsp;digital devices,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As such, Sultan Nazrin said it is the responsibility of the country to learn and re-engineer\u00a0policies and programs\u00a0on health, food supply, education, welfare, and human resources, especially the over-dependence on foreign workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ruler said the country should be\u00a0prepared and be\u00a0brave to conduct audits to assess the strengths and weaknesses of its hardware and\u00a0software assets as well as its human capital\u00a0in terms of quantity,\u00a0quality of expertise, experience, and skillsets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt is important to speed up improvement measures so that the country is better prepared in the face of future crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe crisis that hit must serve as an eye-opener to spark new thinking, formulate new methods, explore new approaches, place new priorities and introduce a new culture of managing the country,&#8221;
