{"id":12149,"date":"2021-10-23T17:14:23","date_gmt":"2021-10-23T09:14:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12149"},"modified":"2021-10-23T17:14:25","modified_gmt":"2021-10-23T09:14:25","slug":"monitor-projects-closely-to-avoid-appointing-rescue-contractors-pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12149","title":{"rendered":"Monitor projects closely to avoid appointing rescue contractors &#8211; PM"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUCHING, Oct 23&nbsp;&#8212; Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob does not want the practice of appointing rescue contractors to persist and instead has called for closer monitoring of government projects from the beginning to ensure they are completed according to schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prime minister said contractors who were late or failed to complete projects not only undermined the government and people\u2019s aspirations but also caused project costs to increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe existing contractors should be monitored (closely) until the work is completed because if it involves such a delay, the hope of people in this area and the government to get a hospital will be affected, and worse still the cost will rise,\u201d he told a press conference after visiting the\u00a0Hospital Petra Jaya (HPJ) project site here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-23-at-17.13.01.png\" alt=\"contractors\" class=\"wp-image-12150\" width=\"513\" height=\"276\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-23-at-17.13.01.png 587w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-23-at-17.13.01-300x161.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-23-at-17.13.01-186x100.png 186w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-23-at-17.13.01-350x188.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 513px) 100vw, 513px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>For&nbsp;HPJ, the rescue contractor began work on the uncompleted portion of the abandoned works early this year and the hospital is expected to be in full operation in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HPJ was once categorized as a \u201csick project\u201d after it fell behind its scheduled completion date of\u00a0November\u00a0\u00a02016 due to delays in construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the Sarawak government had made several requests to the federal government to facilitate development in the state, especially in the rural areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the requests were made when he attended a development briefing by the Sarawak State Economic Planning Unit this morning, in the presence of Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;What was raised just now concerning development in the rural areas, the need for water utilities and roads to be upgraded, and the important thing, I was told, is to upgrade dilapidated\u00a0schools or build new ones throughout Sarawak,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ismail Sabri said Implementation Coordination Unit director-general&nbsp;Datuk Ruji Ubi had been directed to hold discussions with Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Jaul Samion on matters arising under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) involving the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBy the end of 12MP, I hope these matters can be resolved.
