{"id":12021,"date":"2021-10-13T13:56:14","date_gmt":"2021-10-13T05:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12021"},"modified":"2021-10-13T13:56:15","modified_gmt":"2021-10-13T05:56:15","slug":"singapore-asked-to-consider-sops-on-border-reopening","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=12021","title":{"rendered":"Singapore asked to consider SOPs on border reopening"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>MUAR, Oct 13 \u00a0&#8212; The Singapore government has been asked to consider the standard operating procedures (SOPs) on the reopening of the Malaysia-Singapore borders submitted by the Johor state government and approved by the federal government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Hasni Mohammad said the government\u2019s decision to allow interstate travel starting yesterday, must have affected Malaysians who are working in Singapore, to some extent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c(They must have wondered) why they can\u2019t return, can\u2019t travel interstate, and can\u2019t travel back home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in Singapore should not stop it from discussing the reopening of the borders of the two countries with the Johor state government and the Malaysian government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-13.54.37.png\" alt=\"reopening\" class=\"wp-image-12022\" width=\"500\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-13.54.37.png 584w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-13.54.37-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-13.54.37-185x100.png 185w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-13-at-13.54.37-350x189.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>He told reporters this after a walkabout with padi farmers in Sungai Balang, near here, during his visit to the Muar district today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Sunday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced the government\u2019s decision to allow fully vaccinated individuals to make interstate travel without obtaining a police permit after Malaysia achieved the 90 percent COVID-19 inoculation target it had set under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, fully vaccinated individuals were also allowed to travel abroad without going through the Immigration Department\u2019s MyTravelPass starting Oct 11.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hasni said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin had previously indicated that its ministry had discussed with Singapore, adding that the latter had asked for more time as it wanted to reduce the country\u2019s positive COVID-19 cases before it could commence discussions on border reopening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c(But) I think whatever the situation is in Singapore, the important thing is that we (Malaysians) have received the complete COVID-19 vaccine. That&#8217;s more important. To me, cases go up or down, is not an issue. I believe Singapore recognizes that (vaccination rate).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith full vaccination, we have to live with COVID-19.
