{"id":11933,"date":"2021-10-07T16:45:04","date_gmt":"2021-10-07T08:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11933"},"modified":"2021-10-07T16:45:05","modified_gmt":"2021-10-07T08:45:05","slug":"zahid-applies-to-get-passport-back-for-medical-treatment-in-germany","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11933","title":{"rendered":"Zahid applies to get passport back for medical treatment in Germany"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 &#8212; Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is facing 47 charges of money-laundering, criminal breach of trust (CBT), and corruption, today applied for\u00a0the temporary return of his impounded passport\u00a0to seek medical\u00a0treatment in\u00a0Munich, Germany.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The former deputy prime minister&#8217;s counsel Hamidi Mohd Noh informed&nbsp;High Court Judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah that&nbsp;his client was suffering from back and&nbsp;neck pain and needed to get treatment from a leading specialist in Munich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cMy client has been suffering from back and neck pain. He was originally treated by a doctor from Germany in 2013, 2014 (and)\u00a02016.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cWe are making this application to allow the accused treatment to the effect where it is effective and that is required. The\u00a0pain intervention in Malaysia (is)\u00a0not sufficient for Ahmad Zahid,\u201d<\/em> he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-07-at-16.42.42.png\" alt=\"treatment\" class=\"wp-image-11934\" width=\"504\" height=\"272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-07-at-16.42.42.png 583w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-07-at-16.42.42-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-07-at-16.42.42-185x100.png 185w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Screen-Shot-2021-10-07-at-16.42.42-350x189.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The application was filed on Oct 4 and came up for case management today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Gan Peng Kun who did not object to the application said:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThe prosecution received instructions not to object to the application&#8221;.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judge Sequerah then fixed Monday for his decision on the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hamidi, when met after the proceedings, said&nbsp;Ahmad Zahid applied for his passport to be released on Oct 26 and would&nbsp;be returned on Nov&nbsp;21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will make the same application (to obtain the passport) in the Shah Alam High Court this Monday,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahmad Zahid, 68, is facing 47 charges &#8211; 12 for CBT, eight for corruption, and 27 for money laundering &#8211; involving tens of millions of ringgit belonging to Yayasan Akalbudi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
