{"id":11724,"date":"2021-09-25T17:55:51","date_gmt":"2021-09-25T09:55:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11724"},"modified":"2021-09-25T17:55:52","modified_gmt":"2021-09-25T09:55:52","slug":"cycling-amarjit-wins-big-at-uci-2021-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11724","title":{"rendered":"Cycling: Amarjit wins big at UCI 2021 elections"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25\u00a0&#8212; Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) vice president Datuk Amarjit Singh chalked another milestone in his career when he retained his seat at the 2021 Congressional elections of the International Cycling Union (UCI) in Leuven, Belgium, last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amarjit was successfully re-elected to the UCI Management Committee for the 2021-2025 term after winning 38 votes out of 43 delegates, including nine from the Asian continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Challenger Syeikh Khalid al-Khalifa of Bahrain, who is also a member of the executive board of directors in the Asian Cycling Confederation (ACC), only mustered&nbsp;five votes while two other Asian contenders,&nbsp;Sun Weimin (China) and Mohsen Solgi (Iran), withdrew at the last minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Though he was confident of keeping his post, Amarjit admitted that he was surprised at his winning margin,\u00a0a magnanimous reflection of faith from his backers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-25-at-17.53.24.png\" alt=\"uci\" class=\"wp-image-11725\" width=\"496\" height=\"270\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHonestly, I was taken aback at my big winning margin.
