&#8212; The government is allocating&nbsp;RM259.5 million for seven flood mitigation projects (RTB)&nbsp; in Penang to be carried out under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), said Deputy Environment and Water Minister Datuk Mansor Othman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said six of them\u00a0would be an extension of projects currently being implemented, including RTB Lembangan Sungai Pinang, involving a cost of RM150 million, RTB Sungai Kechil (RM16.8 million), and RTB\u00a0\u00a0Sungai Dua (RM45 million), while the seventh would be a new project,\u00a0 the RTB Pondok Upeh\/Sungai Burong, costing\u00a0RM10 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All the projects are now in various stages of implementation,\u00a0\u00a0including the process of appointing consultants for design work, survey work, land investigation, and calling for tender, he told reporters after visiting the\u00a0RTB Pondok Upeh\/Sungai Burong project site here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said all the projects are expected to be ready in\u00a0five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-18-at-15.29.12.png\" alt=\"projects\" class=\"wp-image-11575\" width=\"502\" height=\"327\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-18-at-15.29.12.png 649w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-18-at-15.29.12-300x196.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-18-at-15.29.12-153x100.png 153w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-18-at-15.29.12-350x229.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 502px) 100vw, 502px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ministry, he said, was also conducting a study on&nbsp;the effectiveness of the flood mitigation projects in Penang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThrough the study, Penang will be a model for other states for implementation of flood mitigation projects,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, Mansor said implementation of the RTB Pondok Upeh\/ Sungai Burung, scheduled to begin next year, is aimed at&nbsp;overcoming flood problems in Sungai Burong, Kampung Pondok Upeh, Jalan Lintang Pondok Upeh, Jalan Genting, Jalan Balik Pulau and Kampung Pulau Betong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the RTB Teluk Kumbar, costing RM10 million, he said, the project,&nbsp;implemented in 2019,&nbsp; is expected to be fully completed next month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He said the project is aimed at addressing flood problems&nbsp;in Kampung Nelayan, Kampung Sulup, Kampung Paya and Kampunh Masjid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Implementation of the two RTB projects will benefit more than 80,000 people in the affected areas,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8212;
