Chief of Defence Force"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17&nbsp;&#8212; The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) does not set any racial quota for the recruitment of soldiers, said Chief of Defence Force Gen Tan Sri Affendi Buang.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the notion that only a particular race was favored to join MAF was a misconception as the recruitment of personnel was subject to applicants meeting the stipulated conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMAF has never set quotas for any races when conducting its selection and recruitment process, so there should not arise any notion that MAF is only for a particular race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSelection is done in a fair and transparent manner without taking into consideration any differences in race or religion,\u201d he said in a special interview in conjunction with the 88th\u00a0MAF\u00a0Day at\u00a0Wisma Perwira ATM here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-17-at-19.16.00.png\" alt=\"recruitment\" class=\"wp-image-11563\" width=\"510\" height=\"303\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Affendi said an analysis of the recruitment exercise for young army personnel\u00a0between 2017 and 2020 showed that non-Malays constituted 20 to 25 percent of the intakes every year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor young recruits in the Royal Malaysian Navy, the recruitment (of non-Malays) showed an increase to 18 percent between 2016 and\u00a02020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor the Royal Malaysian Air Force, in 2019 the applications (of non-Malays) made up 19.5 percent of the overall applications, and last year the figure was\u00a024 percent of the total,\u201d\u00a0he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Affendi said non-Malays currently made up 14.49 percent of MAF personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough the number of non-Malays in\u00a0service may seem\u00a0to be low, they are playing a very meaningful and commendable\u00a0role in ensuring the country\u2019s peace, security, and sovereignty,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said MAF was committed to&nbsp;continuing with efforts to attract youths of all races and religions to join it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis includes undertaking online promotions and widening announcements on social media platforms like\u00a0Facebook, Instagram, and\u00a0Twitter as well as the website of every service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cApart from this, promotional activities will also be held through exhibitions and career talks at&nbsp;national-type Chinese and Tamil schools, universities under the Defence Ministry, public and private agencies,\u201d added Affendi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brochures and pamphlets will also be distributed to schools and other relevant organizations to enlighten the people on career opportunities in MAF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>MAF works closely with government agencies, elected representatives, and non-governmental organizations to create awareness of its recruitment exercises, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
