{"id":11461,"date":"2021-09-11T18:59:11","date_gmt":"2021-09-11T10:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11461"},"modified":"2021-09-11T18:59:11","modified_gmt":"2021-09-11T10:59:11","slug":"200-frontliners-from-other-states-to-be-mobilized-to-penang-khairy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11461","title":{"rendered":"200 frontliners from other states to be mobilized to Penang &#8211; Khairy"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">GEORGE TOWN, Sept 11 &#8212; The Health Ministry (MOH) will mobilize 200 frontline personnel from other states to help Penang, following the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Health Minister\u00a0Khairy Jamaluddin\u00a0said the frontline personnel would include medical officers, medical assistants, and nurses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe hope that the deployment of the frontline personnel can be expedited to help Penang in this critical moment,\u201d he said, after a meeting with Penang Chief Minister, Chow Kon Yeow, here today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Apart from that, he said&nbsp;among the initial steps taken was to approve 10 additional intensive care unit (ICU) beds at the Kepala Batas Hospital, and consider building a field hospital near the Penang Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khairy added that to assist frontline staff at public hospitals, he had been informed that private hospitals would increase patient reception capacity, especially COVID-19 patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Screen-Shot-2021-09-11-at-18.56.50.png\" alt=\"penang\" class=\"wp-image-11462\" width=\"503\" height=\"274\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Khairy said he had obtained the consent of private hospitals to add 300 beds, but his ministry would like to ask for an additional 1,000 beds for COVID-19 patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBecause right now, bed capacity for COVID-19 patients in private hospitals is 87 percent while ICU use is 117 percent&#8230; so we will ask them to use the existing capacity to add more capacity they can take (COVID-19 patients).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMOH has the power to require the private hospitals (to do so) provided that they are still not forthcoming with more capacity &#8230; but I don&#8217;t want to get to the point where we have to require them.
