to regazette Kuala Langat forest reserve, halts development plan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 \u2014 The Selangor state government announced today that it will stop proposed development plans for a portion of the Kuala Langat North Forest Reserve (KLNFR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari said this would include canceling the ownership of the land which was previously transferred to a private company for a mixed-development project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOnly 104 acres out of a total of 1,326 acres (of the KLNFR) will be degazetted to complete the land ownership to Busut Baru Orang Asli village to resolve issues that have been pending since 2006.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey were relocated from their original settlement in 1994 for the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) construction,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision comes after a recent halt order the state government issued on plans to degazette 536.7 hectares of the KLNFR which received public objection from both non-governmental organizations and several Selangor assemblymen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith that, the Selangor state government will begin the process of regazetting the KLNFR,\u201d said Amirudin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The KLNFR \u2014 made up of 8,000-year-old forests \u2014 was gazetted as a permanent forest reserve covering 7,246.96 hectares back in 1927.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" government\u2019s degazettement proposal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, he said the replacement area gazetted as a Permanent Forest Reserve of 1,436 acres in Sungai Panjang, Ampang Pechah, and Bukit Broga will retain its status as a Permanent Forest Reserve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe state government would like to emphasize that all previous degazettement processes have followed all procedures and provisions as stated in the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On August 30, the state government had given a green light to degazette 536.7 hectares of the KLNFR, justifying that the area approved for degazettement is only half of what was previously proposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Amirudin said the state government would also write to the Selangor speaker to convene a special meeting of the Select Committee on Competency, Accountability, and Transparency to answer any issues raised on
