PUTRAJAYA, Sept 1 — Individuals issuing statements that could incite others to the point of causing public fear could face action under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (SOSMA) 2012, says Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said this was because the enforcement action was in line with the policy of the Home Ministry as a ministry that wished to ensure peace and stability in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are all kinds of people issuing statements which could incite others and cause public fear, hence police have to take appropriate action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFor example, individuals violating the Printing Presses and Publications Act could also face action,\u201d he said at\u00a0a special media conference held at Kompleks KDN today after starting his official duties as Home Minister under the new Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hamzah said if there were individuals inciting others to the point of causing public uneasiness and trying to run away to another country, SOSMA could be used against them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Sometimes, some people have taken the wrong \u2018medications\u2019 to the point of making various accusations that could influence other individuals who then incite others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hamzah said this when asked to comment on the revelation by a local newspaper on a woman using the\u00a0name,\u00a0\u2018Sittah Annur\u2019\u2019,\u00a0claiming that the Third World War would begin in Sabah and her group leaders would be looking for (Messianic figure)\u00a0Imam Mahdi to fight the enemy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
