{"id":11188,"date":"2021-08-30T19:33:39","date_gmt":"2021-08-30T11:33:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11188"},"modified":"2021-08-30T19:33:41","modified_gmt":"2021-08-30T11:33:41","slug":"nov-8-on-govts-application-to-forfeit-assets-seized-from-najib-rosmah-16-others","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=11188","title":{"rendered":"Nov 8 on govt&#8217;s application to forfeit assets seized from Najib, Rosmah, 16 others"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30&nbsp;&#8212; The High Court here today set Nov 8 to decide on an application by the government to forfeit assets&nbsp;allegedly linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal that were seized from former Prime Minister&nbsp;Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, his wife&nbsp;Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and 16 others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judge\u00a0Mohamed Zaini Mazlan set the date after deputy public prosecutor Harris Ong Mohd Jeffrey Ong informed the court that the prosecution would not be presenting an oral submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I need about two months to deliver my decision and written judgment. The decision is set on Nov 8,\u201d said the judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier,\u00a0Harris Ong informed the court that the prosecution had filed the written submission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-30-at-19.27.15.png\" alt=\"seized\" class=\"wp-image-11189\" width=\"512\" height=\"285\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-30-at-19.27.15.png 568w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-30-at-19.27.15-300x167.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-30-at-19.27.15-180x100.png 180w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-30-at-19.27.15-350x195.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>On May 8, 2019, the Attorney -General&#8217;s Chambers filed a notice of motion to forfeit hundreds of items, allegedly linked to the 1MDB\u00a0scandal, including handbags of various brands and 27 vehicles seized from Najib, Rosmah, their three children, as well as 13 individuals and companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also,\u00a0money amounting to more than RM18 million in several bank accounts at Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, Al-Rajhi Bank Bhd, Malayan Banking Bhd, CIMB Bank Bhd, RHB Bank Bhd, Public Bank Bhd, AmBank Bhd, and Hong Leong Bank Bhd, was frozen between Aug\u00a016, 2018, and March 11, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the forfeiture notice, the prosecution named Najib, Rosmah, their children Nor Ashman Razak, Riza Shahriz Abdul Aziz (Najib&#8217;s stepdaughter) and Nooryana Najwa; Mohd Kyizzad Mesran;&nbsp;Senijauhar Sdn Bhd; Aiman \u200b\u200bRuslan; Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia; Yayasan Semesta;&nbsp;Mustika Kasih Foundation; Rembulan Kembara Sdn Bhd;&nbsp;Goh Gaik Ewe;&nbsp;Roger Ng Chong Hwa (former Goldman Sachs bank officer) and wife Lim Hwee Bin;&nbsp;Kee Kok Thiam, Tan Vern Tact and Geh Choh Hun as the first to 18th respondent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the items mentioned in the notice are handbags, shoes, and watches\u00a0of various brands, as well as cash in various currencies that were seized by the police on May 17, 2018, and June 11, 2018, as well as\u00a027 Nissan vehicles that were seized on Aug 2, 2018, and a piece of land in\u00a0Tanjung Bungah, Penang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
