{"id":10889,"date":"2021-08-18T17:34:03","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T09:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=10889"},"modified":"2021-08-18T17:34:04","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T09:34:04","slug":"landscape-industry-needs-to-be-empowered-muhyiddin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=10889","title":{"rendered":"Landscape industry needs to be empowered &#8211; Muhyiddin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>PUTRAJAYA, Aug\u00a018 &#8212;\u00a0The landscape industry needs to be empowered as a contributor of\u00a0the national economy, as well as a new catalyst and contributor to generate a new economy, said caretaker Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said policies and legislation must be strengthened to ensure the effective presence of landscape importance in every development, especially in creating green infrastructure and a quality living environment for the benefit of all citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLandscape is a green infrastructure\u00a0that a nation must have\u00a0as a necessity that provides multiple benefits to people, the environment, and the economy. It\u00a0facilitates symbiotic relationships and equitable social structures to meet the needs of communities across demographics and abilities,\u201d he said in his speech at\u00a0the 57th International\u00a0Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA)\u00a0World Congress and World Landscape Architects Summit 2021 online today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said\u00a0landscape architects were\u00a0 \u201cessential game changers\u201d\u00a0of the\u00a0future natural and\u00a0built environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/muhyiddin-2-1.jpg\" alt=\"landscape industry\" class=\"wp-image-10890\" width=\"524\" height=\"371\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/muhyiddin-2-1.jpg 607w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/muhyiddin-2-1-300x213.jpg 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/muhyiddin-2-1-141x100.jpg 141w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/muhyiddin-2-1-350x249.jpg 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 524px) 100vw, 524px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cParks, gardens, and green spaces are healing and restorative outdoor spaces, and we need to understand that all these are matters of public health,&#8221; he said, adding that the landscape architects needed to design regenerative public spaces which are dynamic, adaptable, diverse and multifunctional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the government viewed public urban landscape systems as a prerequisite towards healthy communities and,&nbsp;at the same time, one that could mitigate the climate crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhyiddin said&nbsp;Malaysia has over 60 legislations and regulations governing the protection of wildlife and the environment, health, safety and welfare of workers and pollution control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Having strong legislations and rules help to safeguard our environment. We are pleased to inform that we have managed to retain 55 per cent&nbsp;of our rainforests, exceeding five per cent of our earlier commitment,&#8221; he said, adding that Malaysia remained committed to complying with the Paris Agreement on limiting global temperature rise to 1.5\u00b0C and reducing carbon emission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Muhyiddin said&nbsp;sustainable development and landscape architecture played a vital role in driving the nation\u2019s development trajectory on low-carbon and climate-resilient&nbsp;pathways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic has caused great disruptions to our livelihoods and the economy.
