{"id":10877,"date":"2021-08-18T12:30:20","date_gmt":"2021-08-18T04:30:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=10877"},"modified":"2021-08-18T12:30:21","modified_gmt":"2021-08-18T04:30:21","slug":"pejuang-to-back-any-candidate-with-a-majority-as-pm-as-long-as-not-from-court-cluster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=10877","title":{"rendered":"Pejuang to back any candidate with a majority as PM, as long as not from court cluster"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 &#8212;\u00a0Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) will support whoever has the majority for the prime minister\u2019s post as long as the candidate is not from the court cluster because combating corruption is the party\u2019s main principle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pejuang president\u00a0Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said it would finalize the Member of Parliament (MP) with the majority to be appointed as the Prime Ministerial candidate tomorrow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are discussing with other parties, so we will try to get a candidate who has the majority. So, we will focus on the first two candidates for now.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commenting on the audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong&nbsp;Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri\u2019ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at Istana Negara earlier today, he said His Majesty advised all parties to find a meeting point and focus on tackling COVID-19 as well as reviving the country\u2019s economy for now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier,&nbsp;leaders of political parties were granted an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong at 2 pm following the resignation of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among those present were&nbsp;PAS deputy president&nbsp;Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Mukhriz, UMNO president&nbsp;Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also present at the audience were PKR president Anwar,&nbsp;Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and&nbsp;Warisan president Mohd Shafie while the presidents of all component parties of&nbsp;Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) attended online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, Bersatu information chief&nbsp;Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan said the party had full trust in Muhyiddin as president to make the final decision, which would be announced at the appropriate time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the Supreme Council had discussed the formation of the government and the candidate for Prime Minister yesterday, shortly after Muhyiddin announced his resignation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe outcome of that discussion was then taken up with the partners in Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Bersatu MPs to take into account their views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have considered all their views regarding the candidate for the Prime Minister\u2019s post at the meeting,\u201d he said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tuan Ibrahim, meanwhile, said the party was prepared with a statutory declaration of all its MPs to be presented to the King.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPAS also welcomes His Majesty\u2019s advice that the well-being of the country and its people be given priority until the situation allows the 15th GE (General Election) to be held,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dewan Rakyat Speaker&nbsp;Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, in a notice today, had asked each MP&nbsp;to submit a statutory declaration to nominate a name to be appointed as the country\u2019s 9th Prime Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statutory declarations must be submitted to Istana Negara by 4 pm tomorrow at the latest&nbsp;or will not be taken into account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8212;
