{"id":10654,"date":"2021-08-09T10:35:46","date_gmt":"2021-08-09T02:35:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=10654"},"modified":"2021-08-09T10:35:48","modified_gmt":"2021-08-09T02:35:48","slug":"malaysian-economy-set-to-rebound-further-in-the-second-half-of-2021-manulife","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/?p=10654","title":{"rendered":"Malaysian economy set to rebound further in the second half of 2021 &#8211; Manulife"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 &#8212; Local economic activities are expected to recover and rebound further in the second half of this year, even if the herd-immunity\u00a0threshold\u00a0from\u00a0COVID-19 may\u00a0not be reached\u00a0by year-end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Manulife Investment Management (M) Bhd head of retail wealth distribution Ng Chze How said Malaysia is forecast to\u00a0be in a zone that the businesses would\u00a0be picking up, more economic\u00a0sectors reopening, as well as recording further\u00a0recovery and\u00a0rebound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are many case studies, and even right now, I think many Malaysian\u00a0policymakers know that they need to reopen\u00a0many more sectors, as we need to live with the virus. We can\u2019t (impose) lockdown for too long, as people are losing their rice bowls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe forecast for the second half has got a lot to do with the vaccination program and with the\u00a0acceleration of vaccinations, I think the country could continue its economic recovery,\u201d he told Bernama recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-09-at-10.31.36.png\" alt=\"rebound\" class=\"wp-image-10655\" width=\"504\" height=\"269\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-09-at-10.31.36.png 586w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-09-at-10.31.36-300x161.png 300w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-09-at-10.31.36-187x100.png 187w, https:\/\/newmalaysiatimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/08\/Screen-Shot-2021-08-09-at-10.31.36-350x188.png 350w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 504px) 100vw, 504px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of gross domestic product (GDP) growth, exports, and all economic indicators, he said they would also pick up towards the second half of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ng\u00a0said\u00a0many investors were currently setting sights on\u00a0higher-yielding instruments which could provide\u00a0higher income, as\u00a0a fixed deposit rate of about 2.0 percent could not even beat the inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOur market is very well supported by the monetary policy and the lower interest rate environment (at the moment). The lending rate is also at a very low level, probably at around 3.5 percent currently,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In terms of vaccination progress, he&nbsp;said the country was&nbsp;now in the acceleration mode, with the vaccination&nbsp;being&nbsp;ramped up across the country following&nbsp;a steady stream of vaccine supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe schedule of vaccines is looking very good in the month of July and we are going into August and September.
