Kuala Lumpur, 30 July- UMNO President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi stressed that Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs remained supportive of the Barisan Nasional government albeit without officially joining the coalition.
According to Zahid Hamidi, UMNO has decided not to join the Perikatan Nasional, and instead, it will strengthen Muafakat Nasional (MN) together with PAS and the Barisan Nasional (BN) component.
“Support for the Perikatan Nasional government is only based on the support of UMNO and BN MPs as well as ADUNs in the formation of the federal government and in certain states.
Zahid in the press conference also stated, “Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin in a meeting with BN MPs at noon yesterday at the Parliament building has expressed the intention of PPBM (Bersatu) to join Muafakat Nasional.
“PPBM’s intention will be discussed with PAS for it to be refined by the Muafakat Nasional’s main committee as it was previously decided for UMNO and PAS to give priority to strengthen Muafakat Nasional.
According to Zahid, he will leave it to the MN’s main committee to consider PPBM’s wishes if it is able to further strengthen MN for the benefit of the people and the country.
