KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.6 on the Richter scale struck Japan’s Ryukyu Islands at 11.51 pm yesterday.
Malaysian Meteorological Department, in a statement, said that the epicenter of the earthquake was located at a latitude of 28.6 degrees north and longitude of 128.5 degrees east at a depth of 213km, about 279km north of Naha.

However, it posed no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
