Baru Bian to visit Pan Borneo Highway bridge collapse

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 – Minister of Works, Baru Bian will be visiting Pan Borneo Highway construction site today, after an accident involving a collapse of a bridge under construction.

In a statement this morning, Ministry of Works announced that minister Baru Bian will visit the accident site later this afternoon.

A bridge under construction collapsed yesterday, after five girder beams of the Pujut Section component of Work Package Contract (WPC) 11 of the project which would make up a section of the bridge collapsed.

The incident occurred at about 2.30pm and was reported to the Department of Occupational Safety and Health on the same day.

According to Borneo Post, two workers were rushed immediately to Miri Hospital for emergency treatment. One of them reported to have sustained serious injury.

Investigations are underway to identify the cause of accident which would be included in the full incident report later.

Baru Bian will take stern action if negligence involved

A source from the ministry said that Baru, who considers Pan Borneo Highway to be on top of his work priorities, will be taking stern action against responsible parties in case the investigation found that the accident be caused by negligence.
