PM not behind Yusoff vs Anwar, says Haniff

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 – Lawyer Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla has dismissed conspiracy theory linking Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad to behind a plot to destroy Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s political career by using yet another sexual crime involving his client Muhammed Yusoff Rawther.

Haniff is known to have acted for the Prime Minister in the past.

In a late night Facebook post, Haniff called it “THE RIDICULOUS CONSPIRACY THEORY PERTAINING TO YUSOFF RAWTHER’S CASE!!”

Haniff explained that as practising lawyers he can not refuse to take a brief from any client on any matters EXCEPT IN EXCEPTIONAL situation if he is conflicted out or may be embarrassed professionally due to direct link to the subject matter, which of course is NOT the situation in this YUSOFF RAWTHER’s matter, for it to professionally disqualify him.

Haniff denies PM involvement

“The fact that I am appearing for YUSOFF RAWTHER out in front, that surely is crystal clear that TUN MAHATHIR can not therefore be behind this matter at all, otherwise it is a big give away for me to be in the forefront, is it not?

“To me, the capabilities of certain section of our society to come up with fanciful conspiracy theories do at times relegate HOLLYWOOD and BOLLYWOOD and KOLLYWOOD, to 2nd, 3rd and 4th spots down the ladder !! Perhaps these people should put their theories to work through movies for them to earn good money!” Haniff said in his post.

Yusoff made a press conference last week which was also streamed on Facebook Live, where he claimed that a senior politician had committed a crime against him; described as “un-Islamic, vile, insidious and morally repugnant”.

A statutory declaration detailing an incident that allegedly took place at Anwar’s private residence in Bukit Segambut was leaked on social media recently.

Anwar has strongly denied the allegations, his aide made a police report against Yusoff and lawyer considering legal action.

Haniff accompanied Yusoff to give his statement for more than 7 hours at Bukit Aman last night.
