Sarawak Premier Hints Renomination Of Four GPS Incumbents For 13th State Election

Abang Johari GPS incumbents Sarawak state election

KUCHING, Nov 8 – Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has strongly hinted that four incumbent Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state assemblymen will be renominated to defend their seats in the 13th Sarawak State Election.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony for the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth motorcycle convoy in Kuching on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Abang Johari indicated that the four lawmakers are expected to continue receiving the mandate of their constituents.

The four incumbent state assemblymen highlighted by the Premier are:

  • Datuk Hamzah Ibrahim: Incumbent assemblyman for Stakan.
  • Datuk Ibrahim Baki: Incumbent assemblyman for Satok.
  • Datuk Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman: Incumbent assemblyman for Tupong.
  • Datuk Martin Ben: Incumbent assemblyman for Kedup and PBB Youth Chief.

“Today, I do not wish to say much because when I look at the faces of those (incumbents) present here, I know they will continue to be elected by the voters,” Abang Johari remarked during his address.

The announcement aligns with earlier statements by PBB Information Chief Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who confirmed on November 6 that the full list of GPS candidates is expected to be unveiled during the official presentation of candidate appointment letters ahead of Nomination Day on November 28.

Addressing the same event, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who serves as GPS Parliamentary Chief Whip, urged the coalition’s election machinery to maximize voter turnout to secure a decisive victory.

“The drums have sounded. This means that from now on, we must fight to ensure that on Dec 12, people come out in large numbers to vote for GPS,” Fadillah stated, expressing confidence in the determination of party workers.

GPS—comprising PBB, the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), the Sarawak People’s Party (PRS), and the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP)—swept 76 of the 82 seats contested in the 2021 state election. The ruling coalition has confirmed it will contest all 82 seats in the upcoming election.
