KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 – Malaysia Airlines has advised passengers departing from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) between Friday, October 30, and Sunday, November 1, 2026, to allocate additional travel time due to anticipated traffic congestion surrounding the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia (MotoGP).
In a social media advisory issued on Friday, the national carrier warned of heavy traffic delays along major expressways and feeder roads leading to the airport precinct, driven by spectator movements to the neighboring Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
While road access to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 remains fully operational, Malaysia Airlines urged travelers to monitor real-time traffic updates from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), plan alternative highway routes, or utilize rail connections such as the KLIA Ekspres and KLIA Transit services.
“Passengers are advised to arrive at KLIA at least three hours before their scheduled international flight departures and two hours before domestic departures,” the airline stated.
The airline further reminded passengers that check-in counters for both domestic and international flights strictly close 60 minutes prior to scheduled departure times.
The 2026 Malaysian MotoGP takes place from October 30 to November 1, with event organizers targeting a cumulative turnout of 200,000 spectators across the three-day race weekend.
Airport Advisory Guidelines, Rail Alternatives, and Race Event Scope
Key travel recommendations, airport operational guidelines, and race event metrics include:
- Airport Arrival Window: Passengers urged to arrive at least three hours before international flights and two hours before domestic flights.
- Strict Check-In Cutoff: Airport check-in counters close 60 minutes before scheduled departure across all routes.
