KUCHING, Oct 28 – A total of 7,469 police officers and security personnel will be deployed across Sarawak to maintain public safety and order throughout the upcoming 13th Sarawak State Election.
Acting Sarawak Police Commissioner DCP Saifullizan Ishak confirmed during a press conference at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters in Kuching on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, that the state contingent currently faces a shortfall of 889 personnel.
To bridge the manpower deficit, formal requests for reinforcement personnel have been submitted to Federal Police Headquarters in Bukit Aman, with the Sabah Contingent expected to provide operational support.
“We have submitted a formal request to Bukit Aman for additional personnel from other contingents, with Sabah among those likely to assist,” DCP Saifullizan stated.
He added that comprehensive preliminary preparations, including personnel mobilization and logistical arrangements, are underway to ensure seamless security coverage across all 82 constituencies.
The security deployment follows the official dissolution of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on Monday, October 26, 2026. The Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting on November 6 to set key election dates.
