Two Cable Theft Suspects Arrested After Car Crashes Into Drain During High-Speed Police Pursuit

Ampang cable theft suspects arrested police chase

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 11 – Two men suspected of involvement in cable theft were arrested after their getaway vehicle crashed into a drain while attempting to evade police in Taman Sri Watan, Ampang, on Saturday.

Ampang Jaya District Police Chief ACP Khairul Anuar Khalid confirmed in a statement on Sunday, October 11, 2026, that the arrests followed a public tip-off received at approximately 5:53 AM.

Upon arriving at the scene along Jalan Watan 8, a mobile police patrol unit spotted a blue Perodua Aruz parked without registration plates. The driver immediately accelerated in an effort to escape, initiating a police chase that ended when the vehicle lost control and plunged into a roadside drain.

Statutory Investigation, Viral Footage, and Evidence Recovered

Law enforcement officers apprehended both occupants at the crash site and initiated multi-offense legal proceedings:

  • Suspects Detained: Both men inside the crashed Perodua Aruz were taken into police custody immediately following the accident.
  • Statutory Investigation Charges: The case is being investigated under Sections 186 (obstructing a public servant), 379 (theft), 431A (mischief to utility infrastructure), and 124K of the Penal Code, alongside Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
  • Viral Social Media Footage: The arrest gained widespread public attention after two video clips circulated on Threads showing police officers detaining the suspects behind a row of commercial shops.
  • Seized Evidence: Visual evidence from the viral videos displayed bundles of cut utility cables near the vehicle, believed to be the target of the attempted theft.

Police continue to investigate whether the duo is linked to a broader cable theft syndicate operating in the Ampang area.
