Johor Schools To Close For Two Days As Haze Worsens

Johor schools closed haze PdPR

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 7 – All schools across Johor will close for two days beginning Thursday, October 8, 2026, following worsening haze conditions and deteriorating air quality throughout the state.

State Education and Information Committee chairman Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali announced that the school closures were ordered by the Regent of Johor, Tunku Mahkota Ismail, as a precautionary measure to safeguard student health and safety.

To ensure educational continuity during the shutdown, schools will transition to Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) sessions.

Assessment Postponements and Parental Support

The temporary closure will impact scheduled school evaluations and work arrangements across the state:

  • Postponed Assessments: School activities related to the Year Four Learning Matrix (MPT4) or other ongoing assessments will be postponed and rescheduled based on upcoming directives from the Johor Education Department (JPNJ).
  • Employer Flexibility: The state government appealed to private and public sector employers to provide flexible work arrangements for parents and guardians affected by the sudden school closures.
  • Health Precautions: Parents are advised to limit children’s outdoor exposure, monitor for respiratory symptoms such as coughing or breathing difficulties, and ensure adequate hydration.

State authorities and relevant disaster management agencies will continuously monitor Air Pollutant Index (API) readings across Johor to evaluate air quality trends before determining subsequent operational steps for schools.
