PETALING JAYA, Oct 2 – Petaling Jaya Member of Parliament Lee Chean Chung has announced his resignation as a Member of Parliament without any conditions, effective Friday, October 2, 2026.
Lee confirmed during a special press conference at the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre that he officially tendered his resignation letter to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul on Thursday.
“My resignation takes effect today. I met Tan Sri yesterday and formally submitted my resignation letter. We met at 3 pm yesterday to hand over my duties and as a mark of respect for our legislative institution,” Lee said during the press conference, which was also streamed live on his official Facebook page.
Despite his departure, Lee assured constituents that the Petaling Jaya Parliamentary Service Centre will remain open and continue operating to assist the local community.
Departure From PKR Following Membership Suspension
Lee also announced that he will officially submit his resignation from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) on Monday, October 5, ending an 18-year tenure with the political party.
Expressing gratitude to the party and his supporters, Lee stated: “I am grateful to PKR for the opportunities over the past 18 years, and to my comrades who continue to believe in clean politics, institutional reform and a Malaysia that celebrates diversity.”
The announcement follows recent internal party disciplinary actions; on September 30, Lee was officially notified that PKR had suspended his party membership for a duration of three years.
