Bursa Malaysia Ends Higher on Bargain Hunting Amid Oversold Conditions

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 – Bursa Malaysia’s benchmark index closed higher on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, driven by late bargain hunting in selective heavyweights following recent market pullbacks.

At 5:00 PM, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 7.21 points, or 0.43 per cent, to close at 1,651.17 compared to Tuesday’s close of 1,643.96.

The main index opened 2.53 points higher at 1,646.49 and fluctuated between an intraday low of 1,645.03 and a peak of 1,657.41 throughout the trading day.

Despite the recovery in the main index, broader market sentiment remained weak, with decliners outpacing gainers 703 to 413, while 572 counters closed unchanged, 1,167 untraded, and 95 suspended. Total market turnover expanded to 3.63 billion units valued at RM3.62 billion compared to 3.31 billion units worth RM2.95 billion on Tuesday.

Heavyweight and Active Stock Performance

Key blue-chip counters presented a mixed picture at the closing bell:

  • Tenaga Nasional jumped 24 sen to RM12.96.
  • Petronas Gas advanced 22 sen to RM17.40.
  • CIMB added 1 sen to RM7.79.
  • Maybank closed flat at RM9.99.
  • Public Bank edged down 2 sen to RM4.70.
  • IHH Healthcare shed 4 sen to RM7.83.

Among actively traded counters, Gamuda surged 20 sen to RM5.18, V.S Industry gained 4.5 sen to 28 sen, and Jaks Resources added 1.5 sen to 20.5 sen. Zetrix AI slid half a sen to 16 sen, while Aimax closed unchanged at 0.5 sen.

Top gainers for the session included Nestle, which added RM1.00 to RM90.00, Allianz Malaysia (up 76 sen to RM21.62), UWC (up 27 sen to RM7.07), and United Plantations (up 24 sen to RM31.56).

On the decliners’ board, Hengyuan Refining led losses, tumbling 78 sen to RM3.56. Malaysian Pacific Industries erased 40 sen to RM40.40, Kuala Lumpur Kepong lost 30 sen to RM22.20, Genting Plantations shrank 24 sen to RM5.53, and Eurospan fell 23 sen to RM3.01.

Index and Sectoral Performance

Sectoral indices were predominantly negative, weighed down by energy and financial counters:

  • The Energy Index fell 23.00 points to 845.70.
  • The Financial Services Index dropped 44.35 points to 19,216.49.
  • The Plantation Index trimmed 19.67 points to 9,196.67.
  • The Industrial Products and Services Index inched down 0.45 of a point to 180.41.

Across major market indices:

  • The FBM Emas Index climbed 26.55 points to 12,292.02.
  • The FBM Top 100 Index advanced 32.90 points to 12,084.44.
  • The FBM Emas Shariah Index gained 48.73 points to 12,176.35.
  • The FBM ACE Index gained 5.70 points to 5,534.28.
  • The FBM Mid 70 Index dropped 35.42 points to 17,574.67.

Market Breakdown

Main Market volume rose to 2.23 billion units valued at RM3.28 billion. Technology stocks dominated Main Market volume with 508.99 million shares traded, followed by industrial products and services (444.15 million) and consumer products and services (305.02 million).

The ACE Market volume expanded to 510.54 million units worth RM201.45 million, while warrants turnover slipped to 887.74 million units valued at RM138.36 million.
