ISTANBUL, Sept 29 – Qatari mediators will present the United States with new proposals discussed with Tehran on fulfilling Iran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said late Monday.
Speaking to Iranian reporters in New York following meetings on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), Araghchi confirmed that a final response from Washington could be relayed to Tehran as early as Tuesday.
“They had ideas, and we discussed how a way could be found to meet Iran’s conditions and how those conditions could be fulfilled,” Araghchi said, as reported by the official IRNA news agency.
The diplomatic developments follow heightened regional tension and elevated global oil prices, which have weighed on market sentiment worldwide.
Araghchi noted that while exchanges mediated by Qatar and Pakistan have remained active throughout the crisis, negotiations have intensified following Iran’s latest proposal outlining the explicit parameters required to reopen the vital maritime choke point.
The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that he would depart New York for Tehran within hours, leaving Qatari mediators to convey the US administration’s final position once delivered.
