Raja of Perlis Grants Audience to Indonesian Ambassador

ARAU, Sept 23 -The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, granted an audience to the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Malaysia, Raden Datuk Mohammad Iman Hascarya, at the Blue Audience Hall in Istana Arau on Tuesday.

In a statement released today, Istana Arau highlighted that the courtesy call underscored the deep-rooted and longstanding bilateral relationship between Malaysia—particularly the state of Perlis—and Indonesia.

“Perlis’s strategic position bordering Thailand and its proximity to northern Sumatra provide opportunities to strengthen cross-border cooperation and regional networks,” the statement noted.

Also present during the audience was the Indonesian Consul General in Penang, Wanton Saragih Sidauruk.

Istana Arau noted that state-level cooperation has expanded across higher education, marked by the establishment of Universiti Muhammadiyah Malaysia (UMAM) in Perlis. UMAM stands as the first and only Universitas Muhammadiyah campus located outside Indonesia.

The institution recently appointed the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, as its Chancellor.

The palace added that both regions maintain active engagement across economic, trade, tourism, and people-to-people initiatives, creating ongoing opportunities for institutional expertise exchange and mutual economic benefit.

Mohammad Iman was appointed as Indonesia’s Ambassador to Malaysia on Oct 8, 2025.
