DAP CEC to Convene Meeting Following Najib’s Conditional Pardon, Says Anthony Loke

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — The DAP Central Executive Committee (CEC) will meet tomorrow to determine the party’s official position and chart its next steps following the conditional pardon granted to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today.

DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke affirmed in a statement today that while the party respects the constitutional powers of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to grant pardons, DAP remains steadfast in upholding the principles of a constitutional monarchy and the supremacy of the Federal Constitution.

Addressing the role of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh, who served as a member of the Federal Territories Pardons Board, Loke emphasized that her input during the board’s deliberations aligned with DAP’s core principles.

“As she had explained, the views were conveyed honestly and candidly in the country’s interest,” Loke stated.

Loke reiterated that DAP has consistently advocated for justice and full accountability regarding the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, maintaining its call for thorough investigations into the misappropriation of funds and an independent, fair legal process for those responsible.

The scheduled leadership meeting follows the decision by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, to grant Najib a conditional pardon, allowing him to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to the payment of an RM50 million fine.

According to a statement from the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department, the royal decision was finalized during the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya at Istana Negara earlier this morning.
