Pardons Board meeting Istana Negara

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 18 — Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar attended the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya at Istana Negara today.

The meeting is understood to have addressed former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s pardon application, which was deferred during the board’s previous session on Sept 11.

Najib, 73, has been serving his prison sentence at Kajang Prison since Aug 23, 2022.

Local and international media personnel gathered near the main entrance of Istana Negara from early morning to monitor developments. Official vehicles carrying Yeoh and Mohd Dusuki were seen entering the palace grounds at 7:45 am and 7:52 am respectively. Following the session, Yeoh departed Istana Negara first, followed by Mohd Dusuki at 9:43 am.

The Federal Territories Pardons Board is chaired by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and comprises the Attorney-General, the Minister responsible for the Federal Territories, and three additional members appointed by His Majesty.

Under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution, the power to grant pardons, reprieves, and respites, as well as the final decision on all matters concerning offences committed within the Federal Territories, rests solely with the King.
