Melaka Assembly Dissolution Date Not Finalised, Says Chief Minister Ab Rauf

Melaka State Assembly dissolution

ALOR GAJAH, Sept 17 — The date for the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly to pave the way for the upcoming state election has yet to be set, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh clarified today.

Ab Rauf, who also serves as Melaka Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, explained that several key state administrative matters must be completed first to ensure that ongoing governance and development plans proceed smoothly prior to dissolving the assembly.

“I am giving an indication that the Melaka State Assembly will be dissolved from Friday to Friday because within that period, we still have many matters that need to be resolved to govern the state,” Ab Rauf told reporters.

Speaking after officiating the 2026 Melaka State-level Senior Citizens Day, Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Day, and Children’s Day celebrations in conjunction with the Tanjung Bidara constituency’s Wakil Rakyat Untuk Rakyat (WRUR) programme, Ab Rauf assured that the official date will be announced publicly once finalised.

The Chief Minister’s remarks follow viral WhatsApp messages circulated on Tuesday claiming that Melaka Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Mohd Ali Rustam and Ab Rauf had already signed the state assembly dissolution documents during a meeting at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.

The current 28-seat Melaka State Legislative Assembly’s mandate is scheduled to expire on Dec 31.
