KUANTAN, Sept 16 — Police have arrested five Orang Asli individuals for allegedly obstructing enforcement personnel during an official operation at the Tasek Bera Conservation Forest Reserve in Bera yesterday.
Bera Police Chief Supt Zulkiflee Nazir said the incident occurred at approximately 10:00 am when the Pahang State Enforcement Unit (UPNP), alongside the Forestry Department, the Bera District and Land Office, and the General Operations Force (GOF), conducted an enforcement operation under the National Forestry Act 1984.
According to police, a group of individuals set up an physical obstruction and provoked the multi-agency enforcement team while officers were carrying out their duties.
“Following this, police arrested a man and four women aged in their 30s to 60s to assist in investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code,” Zulkiflee said in a statement today.
The arrests follow the circulation of several video clips documenting the confrontation across social media platforms, which drew varied reactions from the public.
Addressing the online reaction, Zulkiflee advised members of the public not to disseminate unverified news or false information that could cause widespread misunderstanding or disrupt public order.
