Religious Affairs Ministry Fully Backs King’s Decree for Uncompromising Tabung Haji RCI Investigation

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 9 — The Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) has pledged its full support for the decree issued by His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, demanding a thorough, transparent, and uncompromising investigation into the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan stated that His Majesty’s decree underscores the critical necessity of protecting public trust and preserving Muslim confidence in Malaysia’s premier haj management and Islamic financial institution.

Emphasizing that law enforcement and legal accountability must take their course, Dr Zulkifli affirmed that the government will enforce strict legal measures against those responsible for governance failures.

“Firm and fair action based on the rule of law should be taken against any individual or entity found guilty of breaching trust and governance principles,” Dr Zulkifli said in an official statement today.

The Minister stressed that the MADANI Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy against any form of power abuse, financial malpractice, or structural weakness that could compromise the safety of TH depositors’ savings.

“Every enforcement measure and improvement recommended by the RCI report will be scrutinised thoroughly to ensure that TH’s governance structure is strengthened to the highest level,” he noted.

“This continued commitment is highly significant not only in upholding justice and accountability, but also in ensuring that past mistakes will not be repeated in the future,” Dr Zulkifli added.

Dr Zulkifli reaffirmed the department’s commitment to ensuring Tabung Haji emerges as a resilient, transparent, and world-class pilgrimage fund that continuously secures the trust of all Malaysians.

The ministry’s statement comes after Sultan Ibrahim called yesterday for exhaustive, uncompromising investigations into the findings detailed in the 211-page RCI report, ensuring appropriate legal action is taken against all guilty parties.

The declassified RCI report, published on July 29, uncovered significant governance, financial, and operational lapses within Tabung Haji between 2014 and 2020.

The findings are set to face intense parliamentary scrutiny during a special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat scheduled for August 11 to debate the RCI report.
