KL Police Step Up Fight Against Organised Begging Syndicates

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is ramping up efforts to combat crime and dismantle organised begging syndicates operating across Kuala Lumpur, supported by corporate partnerships and new community police posts.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus highlighted that organized begging syndicates and street-level crime remain persistent challenges to maintaining public safety in the capital.

“In a major city like Kuala Lumpur, crimes such as snatch theft, begging activities and the syndicates behind them remain among our key challenges,” Fadil told reporters during a press conference today.

“We will continue intensifying enforcement and look forward to the cooperation of the corporate sector and the public in tackling these issues,” he added.

Fadil spoke at the official opening of the new Tun Razak Exchange (TRX) Police Post, an event also attended by TRX City Sdn Bhd (TRXC) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Azmar Talib.

The enhanced security drive follows a joint enforcement operation conducted on July 16 by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and the Immigration Department, which resulted in the arrest of 25 individuals, including 12 foreign nationals involved in street begging.

Addressing the potential involvement of international networks in organized begging, Fadil confirmed that police are working in close coordination with relevant government agencies and foreign embassies to trace supply lines and syndicate leadership.

He assured that appropriate legal action will be taken if investigations confirm links to overseas syndicates.

Fadil noted that Kuala Lumpur Police currently manage 25 police stations and 28 police posts spread across six police districts, including Putrajaya.

Operating under the jurisdiction of the Tun H.S. Lee Police Station beneath the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters, the newly launched TRX Police Post was established through a public-private collaboration between PDRM and TRX management.

The facility will serve as a dedicated operational base to streamline policing duties, enhance rapid response capabilities, and maintain a visible police presence throughout the financial district.
