KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today called on Malaysians to embrace the spirit of the Jalur Gemilang by prioritising national unity and rejecting any elements that could threaten peace.
In a Facebook post, the Prime Minister said the true meaning of independence must be reflected through fair and inclusive development, honouring the promises made by past leaders who fought for the country’s freedom.
“This country must be independent, united, and inclusive, guaranteeing the safety of the people and a balanced, modern development,” he wrote.
Anwar’s message came after he officiated the opening of Section 1 of the East Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE). The new section is expected to significantly benefit local residents by connecting communities and reducing traffic congestion.
He highlighted that the project was a testament to local expertise, particularly Bumiputera companies and young professionals. “Only with discipline, transparency, and adherence to the law can we ensure that every development truly benefits the people, not just those in power,” he said.
The government remains committed to improving the quality of life for all Malaysians through better housing, transportation, and balanced development nationwide, Anwar added.
The 24-kilometre EKVE Section 1 features four elevated interchanges at Sungai Long, Bandar Mahkota Cheras, Hulu Langat, and Ampang. It is part of the larger 39.5-kilometre Kuala Lumpur Outer Ring Road (KLORR).
