KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) — The Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will refer the investigation paper on the death of student Zara Qairina Mahathir to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) tomorrow.
Its director Datuk M Kumar said this was to obtain advice on further investigative actions to be carried out by the Bukit Aman CID special task force handling the case.
He said a total of 195 witnesses, including students, teachers, medical officers, wardens, security guards and parents, had so far given their statements.
“The police investigation focuses on two key elements, namely the inquest and other criminal conduct aspects, including bullying and the spread of fake news.
“The public is urged not to speculate or stir up sentiments that could cause disharmony,” he said in a statement today.
Kumar assured that the investigation was carried out in a comprehensive and transparent manner without protecting any party.
Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17 after being admitted a day earlier.
The Form One was found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar at 4 am on July 16.
