
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 5 – A strong earthquake, measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale, occurred at 9:03 am today along the northern coast of Papua New Guinea, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department.
It said in a statement that the epicenter was 80 kilometers east of Wiwak, Papua New Guinea, at a depth of 44 kilometers.
The earthquake did not pose a tsunami threat to Malaysia.
