Putin expects Malaysia-Russia trade to grow

VLADIVOSTOK (Russia), Sept 5 – Trade between Russia and Malaysia stands at nearly $3.5 billion (US$1 = RM4.3505), with significant growth, there according to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlin.ru reported that Putin expects new opportunities for cooperation with ASEAN when Malaysia takes over the presidency in 2025. “We are determined to strengthen our relationship with ASEAN, it is well understood that Malaysia plays an important role in the association.

“Next year, Malaysia will lead the meeting, I am confident that during your administration, we will discover new ways of cooperation in this difficult region,” said the president, said Kremlin.ru, Wednesday, September 4. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim met with President Vladimir Putin for a second round of talks on Wednesday.

Stop Israel killings in Gaza

Aside from that, Malaysia and Russia have agreed that the international community will work hard to stop Israel’s campaign of killings in Gaza, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Furthermore, Anwar also expressed the hope that Russia will follow a constructive way to achieve a permanent peace of the conflict in Ukraine, based on the basis of the peace agreement. “With continued participation, I believe we can deepen our understanding in these difficult times,” he said in a message published today on X (formerly Twitter).

The meeting coincides with Anwar’s two-day official visit, during which he will address a session of the 9th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) later today.
