PUTRAJAYA, April 6 — Ledang Member of Parliament Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh of PKR has been appointed as the non-executive chairman of the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) effective April 1, the latest in a series of political appointments to government-linked companies (GLC) and agencies.
In a statement today, MDEC said Syed Ibrahim has extensive experience in telecommunications, having worked with Telekom Malaysia Bhd, from 1989 to 2014 with the last position being assistant general manager.
“He also has experience in the field of customer relationship management, project management, marketing and trade sales, segmentation and analysis as well as information technology and systems management,” said MDEC.

MDEC is a GLC under the communications and digital ministry headed by PKR’s Fahmi Fadzil.
Anwar’s administration has come under fire and ridicule from netizens and civic groups, who say this practice is inconsistent with their election manifesto as well as previous attacks on political appointments.
Previously, Bersih chief Thomas Fann expressed regret that Anwar’s government was continuing the practice of appointing politicians to GLCs, saying that political appointments smacked of political patronage and was a disservice to voters, especially if it involves currently elected representatives.
