Kuala Lumpur, April 11 — High-level sources have lambasted an online portal for publishing what they said were “ill-informed, speculative, baseless and sensationalized news.”
The sources, who requested anonymity, were referring to an article that alleged that two diplomats stationed in the UAE were recalled to Wisma Putra due to the lack of “official guest status” for the visit of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to the Emirates last month.
According to the sources, these allegations are not only untrue but are dirty political attacks by unfriendly parties.
“Ambassador Tarid Sufian and Consul-General Hasril Abdul Hamid had made a diplomatic blunder, that led to the embarrassment of both Malaysia and the UAE when they failed to coordinate the PM’s trip with the UAE government.”

“Based on the content of the article, it is clear that the sources referenced or quoted are not from officers or parties directly involved in handling matters relating to the visit. The diplomats had to be recalled as they were unable to perform their function in coordinating administrative and logistical matters for a high-level visit.”
The UAE government had been informed that the visit of PM Ismail Sabri was not in an official capacity, and hence, there was no formal welcome upon arrival, the sources further added.
“Despite being a private visit, the UAE government accorded PM Ismail Sabri and the Malaysian delegation with all the facilities and services deserving of a Head of State.”
During the trip, PM Ismail Sabri attended the closing ceremony of the Malaysia Pavilion and an appreciation ceremony for officers and staff of the Malaysian Pavilion at the Expo.
Ismail Sabri also attended the signing ceremony of several Memoranda of Understanding between Malaysian and international companies in conjunction with the Dubai 2020 Expo.
YAB Prime Minister also attended the closing ceremony of the World Government Summit (WGS) on March 30, hosted by the UAE Government and attended by the Ruler of Dubai, His Majesty Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
