Genting Highlands remains popular escape for couples on dates

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 – Genting Highlands is the most popular destination for Malaysian couples who are dating, with women being more inclined to go out with a guy if he invites her to the casino resort in Pahang.

A survey by JustDating, a dating app, questioned men about their dating habits and what works when asking a women out on a date.

The results revealed that men asking their dates if they would like to go to the popular hill resort had proven to work most of the time, Chinese-language daily, China Press reported.

This is not surprising as there is a long-held notion that hotels in Genting Highlands are off-limits as far as the religious police are concerned.

Moral policing under the Pakatan Harapan government

The issue of moral policing of Muslims saw Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mujahid Yusof Rawa hit the headlines earlier this month when The Star had reported him as saying that there would not be any more cases of “knocks on the door in the middle of the night”.

“I have never asked that ‘knocks on the door in the middle of the night’ be stopped. These are conclusions drawn by the editors,” Mujahid was quoted as saying on TV Al-Hijrah following the backlash he got from Muslim groups and Islamist party PAS.

Mujahid, who is also a Parti Amanah vice-president, is the minister who holds the religious affairs portfolio in the Cabinet.

Pahang Regent’s remarks on anti-vice operations

The Regent of Pahang Regent, Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had also weighed in on the issue at the time, saying that his state will continue with anti-vice operations, including through raids at residences or other premises such as hotels to prevent immoral activities.

“It is important to ensure actions taken by the enforcement team were not done hastily, but in accordance with the law and regulations, such as getting the approval of the police and the local authorities.

“Regardless of the view of the minister concerned, at the state-level, we will continue with the enforcement to curb shariah crime,” the Pahang Regent was quoted as saying by Bernama.

It is left to be seen if such actions by the relevant Islamic authorities in Pahang, will be extended now to hotels in Genting Highlands, following the results of the survey proving how popular the resort is for couples trying to get away for the weekend.

Johor women wait longest to date

Meanwhile, the survey also revealed that 78% of women in the Klang Valley were willing to go out with a man within the first 24 hours of having met on the dating app.

In comparison, 65% of women from Penang felt more comfortable going out with a man they met online after having chatted with them for at least a week.

Johor women were the most cautious however, as the survey showed 80% of them saying they would only agree to meet up with a new acquaintance of the opposite sex after having spoken online for at least one month.

The JustDating survey also threw in a question on the upcoming Halloween celebration, on October 31, asking women on what was their preferred costume.

In the Klang Valley, about 40% of the women said they wanted to dress up as Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
